Maciej Świeszewski

MACIEJ SWIESZEWSKI (b. 1950 in Sopot)

Painter, professor of the Academy of Fine Arts. He obtained his diploma with honourable mention in 1976, at the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk. He started to work there as an assistant with prof. M. Kasprowicz, and later with prof. Jerzy Zablocki.

In 1982 he went on a British Council scholarship to London and in 1984 moved to Paris, where he worked in the maintenance of large paintings of French painters of the nineteenth century in the Louvre. In 1987, he spent several months in the Middle East. In 1990 he became a member of the Board of Daniel Chodowiecki Foundation in Berlin (by the Akademie der Künste). In 1991-1994, he was dean of the Faculty of Painting and Graphic Arts Academy in Gdansk. From 1995 to 2000 he was head of the Department of Painting and Drawing Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk.

In 2001 he received the title of professor . From 1997 to 1998 he was an editor in chief of the quarterly magazine "Projekt". Since 1999, he is the Secretary of the Programme Council of the National Gallery of Art in Sopot. From 2003 to 2004 was the President of the Society for Encouragement of Fine Arts. In 1992, he left with a group of friends on a journey around the world (Florida, Hawaii, Japan, Fiji Islands, Australia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Nepal, India, Ceylon, the island of Bangaram, Rome, London, Paris). In subsequent years, he has traveled to Mexico, Turkey, USA, South Africa, Venezuela and European countries.

Prof. Maciej Świeszewski is the author of the painting "The Last Supper", which was presented in November 2005 in St. John's church in Gdansk. Large, oil painting was being created for ten years, and since the first presentation arouses media interest because of its context - in the role of the Apostles author immortalized the famous people like.: Jan Kozlowski, Paul Huelle, Stefan Chwin.
