Zbigniew Bury

ZBIGNIEW BURY (b. 1966). Born in Wadowice. He studied for a year at the Private School of Visual Arts in Bielsko-Biała. During the restoration of polychromes in Gierałtowice, he developed a close relationship with Karol Pustelnik, an artist from the "Kraków Group" (Grupa Krakowska), with whom he remained friends until Pustelnik's death in 2010. In 1996, together with artist Piotr Jargusz, he founded the "Studio TU" art group.

Zbigniew Bury is an interdisciplinary artist, working primarily in painting, sculpture, and ceramics. His early projects, presented among others at the 1997 "Kunst Findet Kunst" art fair in Munich, addressed the complex issue of freedom in post-communist countries. In 2002, in Isny (Germany), his project "Red Line Art – European Art.- Project 2002" won major recognition and was fully realized. Since 2008, the artist has also been pursuing a parallel creative path, producing caricatural works under the pseudonym Alex Johanson.

Zbigniew Bury has been repeatedly recognized for his professional, artistic, and socio-cultural activities. In 2009, he was awarded the Silver Medal of the "Labor Omnia Vincit" Society, and in 2013, he received the "Meritorious for Polish Culture" badge from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage. In 2020, he was awarded an Honorary Diploma by the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine in Kyiv. The artist exhibits his works regularly both domestically and abroad. He is a member of the NADSKAWIE Art Group and the Kazimierz Brotherhood of Art – Art Colony in Kazimierz Dolny.
