EDWARD DWURNIK (born in 1943, d. 2018)
Painter, illustrator, graphic artist. In 1963-70 he studied painting, graphic arts and sculpture at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts. In 1965, independently of his course of studies, he began his drawings and watercolour series. The year 1966 marks the birth of his "Hitch-hiking" (Podróże autostopem) series, distinctive birds eye view cityscapes, which he has been painting until today. Dwurnik created many cycles of paintings – for example “Sportsmen”/“Sportowcy” (1972-1978).
Apart from painting Dwurnik pursues and practices drawing and graphic arts creating independent series as well as illustrations. The artist enjoys designing monumental painted compositions which transforme the public space. In 2007 he created drawings and gouaches for "Grocery shop, 360 degrees" ("Warzywniak, 360 stopni"), an animated film by Andrzej Barański. His works are to be found in private and public collections around the world.
Edward Dwurnik is considered to be one of the most recognizable Polish contemporary artists. He was awarded with the prestigious award founded by Coutts & Co Foundation in Zurich (1992).
